Tejo Wine - Fortified
Origin: Tomar, Portugal
Grape varieties: Moscatel Roxo - 100%
Once reached the ideal point of maturation of the Moscatel Roxo, the harvesting takes place usually during the month of September, manual Harvest, in 20 kg boxes.
After complete destemming, the fermentation takes place for a short period of time until reaching the desired sugar level, at which point it is interrupted with the addition of selected brandy (aguardente vínica at 77% vol.).
During the skin maceration, which lasts for some months, the whole aromatic potential of the grape is extracted, preserving the richer primary aromas (terpenes).
The aging process in barrels, which can reach 2 years, gives it the captivating intense topaz hue, as well as promoting oxidative aging (so desired in this style of wines) that gives it complexity and enhances its potential.
18 months in French and American oak barrels.
Sellium is a "sweet" wine, with an intense aroma and persistent flavor, full of luscious notes, hints of dried nuts and light caramelized.
It has good volume in the mouth with a long finish, proving to be the ideal companion for desserts or simply to finish the meal.

Total acidity: 4,60 g/l
Reducing sugars: 137 g/l
"This has flavors that are reminiscent of the Moscatels from Setubal. It's a rich wine that shows a hint of the spirit element, but the ripe flavors of toffee and raisin ice cream are more prominent. Drink now." 88 pts - Roger Voss 21112012

The home of the Moscatel Roxo grape varietal is the Setúbal Peninsula, but it’s very well adapted to our Tejo region.
Its clusters are small and compact with round, pinkish berries that have an extreme sweetness. This grape varietal, like the Moscatel, has a rich aromatic profile and contributes unequivocally to the aroma and flavor of the wine it produces.
Compared to the wines of the Moscatel de Setubal grape variety, this fortified wine has a more dry and complex aroma but no less rich.
Upon tasting, it exceeds expectations created by the aroma palate, displaying a very fine highlight of spices, cherries and fig compote.
The Moscatel Roxo typically has a smaller production than the Moscatel, hence it is lesser known but no less appreciated.
The vineyards are planted in deep soil of schist origin and clay-limestone, dry on the surface and rich in water the transition to the underground. Equipped with drop-by-drop irrigation, to control the level of water stress, the vineyards have driven systems that guarantee sun exposure and aeration necessary for more balanced maturation and high quality grapes based on a selection of the best regional, national and International grapes varieties.
Red varieties: Touriga Nacional, Aragonez, Castelão, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon e Merlot.
White varieties: Arinto, Fernão Pires, Moscatel Galego Branco, Moscatel Roxo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling e Gewürztraminer.
Wines from the Tejo region
Family-owned estate winery with 30 hectares. Dedicated to producing wines of exemplary quality, enhanced by a regional character.
Our story starts with a passion for wine and the Templars history when, back in 1989, we discover old vineyards left to natural succession near Tomar, a city located in the center of Portugal and founded by the Knights Templar. Nourished by a sunny, warm and dry climate, relative cool nights, with limestone-clay and schistose soils, this fertile agriculture region has excellent natural conditions for grape growing.
Inspired by the multi-centenary Templar’s art of winemaking in this region, we embraced our new ambition by building a state-of-the-art winery and gradually restructured the vineyards to achieve a balance of young/old vines, all under the supervision of an experienced technical team.
Reaching top 3 in one of the largest international wine competition strengthened our focus on making world-class wines at affordable prices. Our dedication to quality is consistently recognized by several Gold and Silver medals in rigorous wine competitions and 85+ ratings (Very Good) in renowned international publications.
